Safety Management
Safe operation of a plant for the protection of man and environment
We increase the level of safety
Safety-related organizational structures and operational procedures as well as their documentation in operating instructions and regulations are a key aspect of our work. Emphasis is also placed on studying human behavior.
TÜV SÜD investigates and assesses these "soft" aspects of nuclear operations with an emphasis on either of the following areas:
- human factors
- organization and operating regulations
Human factors
We examine and assess technical and organizational influences on human behavior and errors based on a system-ergonomic approach. If human error played a part in an incident, we investigate the given preconditions for the action, determine weaknesses, evaluate improvement measures or suggest our own improvement recommendations.
Within the framework of a probabilistic safety assessment, we quantitatively investigate and evaluate the reliability of human actions (Human Reliability Analysis, HRA), using tried and tested methods.
Organization and operating regulations
The scope of action for all employees of a nuclear facility is defined by organizational specifications. The design of the organizational structure and workflow sequences thus represent key limiting conditions for safe operation.
The impact on safety must be considered, especially following restructuring measures in an organization. We examine the extent to which an organizational change has an impact on operational safety.
Once all organizational specifications have been implemented and explicitly formulated in the form of operating regulations, all tasks, areas of responsibility and instructions have been defined. TÜV SÜD examines and assesses these organizational and operational regulations to ensure they conform to the rules of superordinate guidelines and checks whether they are complete, logically consistent and easy to understand.
