Civil engineering in nuclear engineering

High demands on buildings for nuclear facilities

Due to the high danger potential for men, environment and material goods, nuclear building structures must be designed to withstand not only the "ordinary" strains every building must endure, including specific weight, wear incurred through daily use of the building, wind, snow and temperature, but must also be designed to resist very rare external impacts, such as earthquakes, airplane crashes, extreme flooding, and internal influences, including jet forces and pressure build-up due to pipe leaks.
