Against the backdrop of current Chinese product recalls, TÜV SÜD and the Chinese authority CIQ (China Inspection and Quarantine) are planning to co-operate more closely in future. Co-operation between regulatory bodies and product testing specialists can further enhance the safety of Chinese products and minimize consumer risks.
In China, inspectors from the competent regulatory authorities inspect all products destined for export, which are listed in specific export catalogues. “Thanks to these inspections, the safety of products exported from China has significantly improved over recent years,“ says Andreas Ruhl, President of TÜV SÜD China. “By planning to cooperate with TÜV SÜD, Chinese authorities are demonstrating that they take consumer protection very seriously and are set to reduce product risks further.“ They want consumers to be able to trust that products made in China are manufactured and inspected in compliance with internationally recognized standards. According to Ruhl, Chinese manufacturers will also benefit from compliance with internationally recognized test criteria and the use of the certification marks associated therewith – for example, the blue TÜV SÜD Octagon. “Manufacturers can use these certification marks to prove to consumers that their products and production processes are governed by extensive and documented quality assurance and certified by independent third-party experts.“
Consistent, end-to-end inspection of the value-added chain
TÜV SÜD is one of the world’s leaders in product testing. Over 1,600 experts work in 44 service centres and accompany product approval for over 30 target markets – in China alone, around 450 experts test products at ten locations. “Against the backdrop of rapidly growing international trade, we are committed to continuous end-to-end inspection along the entire value-added chain, and offer these services to our clients“, emphasizes Andreas Ruhl.
