Dr Manfred Bayerlein appointed to Board of Management of TÜV SÜD AG
Dr Manfred Bayerlein has been appointed to the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD AG. The 48-year old graduate engineer (Diplom-Ingenieur) was appointed Chief Operations Officer by the Supervisory Board of the international service corporation, effective 1 January 2008. Working in tandem with Chief Executive Officer Dr Axel Stepken and Chief Finance Officer Dr Peter Klein, Bayerlein aims to generate profitable growth for TÜV SÜD Group, worldwide.

Manfred Bayerlein joined TÜV SÜD Group in 2003 as CEO of TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH. Under his management, the largest TÜV SÜD company, employing roughly 2,200 staff and generating annual sales of approx. EUR 275 million, succeeded in sustainably boosting its earning power based on a comprehensive turnaround strategy. In addition, operating profits of the TÜV SÜD Industry Services business units (annual sales approx. EUR 400 million) more than tripled within a few years under his leadership. Employing 13,000-plus staff, TÜV SÜD Group generates annual sales of just under € 1.2 billion.
Bayerlein, born in Bayreuth, Franconia, studied and completed his doctorate in materials sciences and information technology at Erlangen-Nuremberg university. Before joining TÜV SÜD, he held the position of Managing Director for France and Germany at MESSER Griesheim Group, a company of the HOECHST Group. Prior to this, Dr Bayerlein held various management positions in German ABB Group.
Bayerlein is married with two children. No decision has yet been made concerning his successor as CEO of TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH.
