TÜV SÜD recognized as certification body for biofuels

In future, all companies placing biofuels on the European market must meet the statutory sustainability standards. Germany is the first EU country to introduce a certification instrument for this purpose. TÜV SÜD has now received preliminary authorization as a Certification Body from the German Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung, BLE), enabling the company to provide certification of the production conformity of liquid biofuels and other bioliquids with the Biomass Sustainability Ordinance.
TÜV SÜD unveils certification mark dedicated to the global footwear industry

TÜV SÜD designed a certification program exclusively for the global footwear industry. The “TÜV SÜD Footwear Mark” addresses the industry’s concern for safeguarding the chemical safety of footwear. The Mark demonstrates a retailer’s or manufacturer’s compliance to international chemical regulations as well as RSL (Restricted Substance List) requirements.

TÜV SÜD increases sales revenue and international growth

In 2009, international service corporation TÜV SÜD AG increased its sales revenue to EUR 1.4 billion (from EUR 1.36 billion in 2008). The number of staff increased by 700 to reach 14,860. "In a year characterized by extraordinary economic turbulence, our company stands for stability, certainty and growth", explained CEO and President Dr Axel Stepken at the annual financial results conference in Munich.
TÜV SÜD selected as 'best verifier'

The readers of British business magazine "Environmental Finance" have selected TÜV SÜD as best verifier of climate change projects under the Kyoto Protocol. Over the last eight years, the emissions trading experts have realized over 1,200 projects based on the Kyoto Protocol. In TÜV SÜD's view, to be successful a climate change agreement requires clear rules and reliable framework conditions for all parties involved.
TÜV SÜD explores limits of lithium-ion batteries for cars

The world's first dynamic crash tests of lithium-ion batteries for passenger cars were completed successfully on the TÜV SÜD test ground in Munich Allach. "The results will be used to develop and define the urgently needed safety and installation standards for lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles", TÜV SÜD Chief Executive Officer and President Dr Axel Stepken comments the test series.
Health protection in times of crisis

At the 2009 Conference of the International Labour Organisation, Dr Axel Stepken, CEO and President of TÜV SÜD AG, signed the "Seoul Declaration on Safety and Health at Work". By signing this declaration, presidents, prime ministers and decision-makers in industry proclaim their social responsibility for ensuring, safe, healthy and fair work conditions. Some 300 participants from 60 countries met at the ILO Conference in Düsseldorf to analyse how the global financial crisis will affect safety and health at work.
TÜVTURK completes 5 millionth vehicle inspection

Only 21 months after taking up operation, TÜVTURK, the only organization approved to carry out regular vehicle inspections in Turkey, has now completed its 5 millionth vehicle inspection at the test station in Bolu. It has thus become clear that TÜVTURK will top the 4.8 million roadworthiness tests forecast for 2009.

E-mobility: TÜV SÜD turns focus to battery safety

According to TÜV SÜD, internationally binding safety standards are urgently needed to ensure safe electric mobility. This applies in particular because lithium-ion batteries, a key component of future drive systems from all manufacturers, involve high risk potential in the areas of functional, electrical, chemical and mechanical safety. These risks are not adequately addressed by current test standards, emphasized TÜV SÜD President and CEO Dr Axel Stepken at a press conference held on Wednesday morning (16 September) at the IAA in Frankfurt. Dr Stepken also announced that TÜV SÜD will carry out the first crash tests with lithium-ion car batteries as early as this autumn.

"Eco-friendly", "innovative" and "sensible" are the attributes consumers name most often in connection with electric cars, according to a representative survey conducted by TÜV SÜD and market research institute Technomar. Sixty per cent of motorists surveyed claimed to be actively interested in e-mobility.

At Expo Real on 5 October 2009, TÜV SÜD will award its new SCoRE Certificate for administrative premises owned by financial services provider KGAL. Other products and services presented by TÜV SÜD will include innovative market reports featuring reliable market data on German metropolitan centres, comprehensive due diligence services, quality control services during construction, legally binding building acceptance for jointly owned property, and certification for energy-efficient lifts. TÜV SÜD America Awarded 12-Month Ford Contract

TÜV SÜD America was recently awarded a 12-month contract to support Ford Motor Company's Vehicle Operations at various assembly plants in the NAFTA region. These contracts are known as the Transportable Environmental Four Poster (TEFP) and the Transportable Ambient Four Poster (TAFP).
TÜV SÜD at IAA for the first time

This September TÜV SÜD will exhibit at the Frankfurt IAA, the International Automobile Show, for the first time. Under the slogan "Discover Diversity. Enhance Efficiency", TÜV SÜD will present its mobility services, ranging from future roadworthiness testing to cost-efficiency in car dealerships and environmentally-friendly fleet management, in Hall 8 between 17 and 27 September. TÜV SÜD America and Renewable Energy Test Center (RETC, LLC) Partner to Provide Photovoltaics Testing and Certification

TÜV SÜD America Inc. has announced a cooperation agreement with Renewable Energy Test Center (RETC LLC), an engineering services and test provider based in Fremont, California. Through this cooperation, RETC will provide TÜV SÜD a global partner for testing and certification for photovoltaics (PV) and renewable energy products, including third-party outdoor performance and reliability testing.

By sealing this takeover, the international service provider continues on its track of continuously expanding services for the chemical and petrochemical industries. TÜV SÜD certifies European Central Bank

The European Central Bank (ECB) has been awarded ISO/IEC20000 certification for excellence in IT service management (ITSM). The ECB’s Directorate General Information Systems underwent comprehensive auditing and assessment by TÜVSÜD before being awarded. ISO/IEC 20000 is a worldwide standard specifically aimed at ITSM. It describes an integrated set of management processes for the effective delivery of IT services to the business and its customers. The ECB is the world's first central bank to attain ISO/IEC 20000. DrPeter Klein, Chief Financial Officer of TÜVSÜD AG, presented the certificate to Dr Jürgen Stark, Member of the ECB’s Executive Board.
TÜV SÜD certifies LPG gas conversion at Mercedes-Benz

TÜV SÜD is acting as expert appraiser in the pilot phase of converting Mercedes vehicle models to liquid petroleum gas, providing assistance and supervision. Designed by Althengstetten-based company GasDrive Technologies GmbH, the premium LPG conversion system is the first on the market to be specifically tailored to Mercedes-Benz vehicles. GasDrive provides conversion services including conversion of Mercedes A, B, C and E class four-cylinder models. In its role as expert appraiser, TÜV SÜD conducted a long-distance test drive in a Mercedes E 200 converted by GasDrive for the purposes of measuring fuel consumption. Under normal driving conditions, the E class vehicle achieved a range of 1650 kilometres.
TÜV SÜD continues its expansion course in spite of the economic crisis

Munich. Against the backdrop of the global financial and economic crisis, TÜV SÜD AG continued its expansion course in 2008. The revenue of the international service corporation increased to almost EUR 1.4 billion, EBT remained roughly at the prior-year level, at EUR 107 million. Globally, TÜV SÜD recruited approximately 1,000 new employees. Through targeted investments, the service group will further strengthen its international and national competitiveness and thus secure jobs in the long-term.
